Luke Slater’s most timeless records

Luke Slater may be well known now for his acid techno, but have you heard his more intimate side?

In the 90s, he made what are probably the most beautiful records of that ambient techno that many of us love! So this post is more focused on Luke’s nostalgic and dreamy side!

I have no doubt that these records will endure forever in the history of techno music! In fact, they already have <3

  • The 7th Plain – To Be Surreal [General Production Recordings] (1993)

My favorite Luke record and definitely one of the top five in the history of techno—it’s impossible to imagine such beauty! It’s surreal! another dimension! I would love to know what Luke was thinking when he created this beauty.

Yes! from 1993, which for many people is the best year of ambient techno that makes your brain dance <3

  • Planetary Assault Systems – Planetary Funk Vol. 3 (Visit To Pro-form iii) [Peacefrog Records] (1994)

Another gem! A truly beautiful track, considering that Luke was producing more industrial techno at the time and then he does this? What a beautiful contrast!

  • The 7th Plain – The 4 Cornered Room [General Production Recordings] (1994)

Three of the tracks that will be published here are part of one of the best “bedroom techno” albums in history! It’s beautiful from start to finish, my favorite Luke album!

A-TON recently made some compilations, as well as remasters with most of the tracks, but sadly this one wasn’t included… let’s hope it happens someday 🙂

  • Planetary Assault Systems – The Electric Funk Machine [Peacefrog Records] (1997)

Luke’s first album under his PAS project, a superb recording, but if I had to choose one track, it would be The Return, a beauty from start to finish.

  • Luke Slater – X-Tront Vol. 2 [Peacefrog Records] (1993)

I don’t really know what was going on in 1993 that led to such beautiful albums being made! It’s hard to believe that 32 years have passed and this seems like the future when it’s actually the past <3

  • Planetary Assault Systems – Planetary Funk Vol. 4

I confirm that this is my favorite Luke record for the dance floor. Whenever you play it, it works! There’s always incredible euphoria when this record is playing somewhere!

  • Luke Slater – Freek Funk [NovaMute] (1997)

Is it just me, or does the track “Love” sound like a fusion between Luke and Underworld?

I think this is the kind of track that motivates you and lifts you up every day to keep dreaming and fighting for your dreams in this horrendous system, or well, watching the original video usually gives me that feeling, haha xd.

  • The 7th Plain – TRJ-Cendance [General Production Recordings] 1994

The 7th Plain is my favorite Luke project. Its last official release was in 1995. Do you think this project will ever return? It’s worth dreaming…

  • The 7th Plain – My Yellow Wise Rug [General Production Recordings] (1994)

One of the three albums under The 7th Plain project, less well known than The 4 Cornered Room but rather underrated. My favorite track is Shades Amaze, with beautiful vocals and Luke exploring the variations of downtempo.

  • Planetary Assault Systems – The Messenger [Ostgut Ton] (2011)

Luke Slater releases a new album on the Ostgut Ton label, part of the legendary Berghain / Panorama Bar club, but that’s not the best part! Luke manages to rescue “Railer,” one of his most beautiful ambient music tracks, from an ‘unofficial’ white label on the album “Playing With Fools” released by General Production Recordings in 1996! That’s right! 15 years later :O

  • The 7th Plain – The 4 Cornered Room [General Production Recordings] (1994)

Another gem from an incredible album! This time, Time Melts! It was included in the A-TON compilations.

  • The 7th Plain – To Be Surreal [General Production Recordings] (1993)

So not only does this legendary record feature the timeless track “To Be Surreal,” it also has another classic from the history of 90s techno, and I’m talking about Millentum <3

  • The 7th Plain – The 4 Cornered Room [General Production Recordings] (1994)

And to finish off, as it should be, with one more track from this incredible album, this time I’m talking about Reality Of Space.

What an incredible journey it was to dig up Luke Slater’s releases! But I’m sure he must have more music out there! Not to mention his acid techno releases, but that’s another story…!

LS 4e! Thank you for the music <3

With love <3
